I need to describe any entry points(physical or data transmission related, or any situations that may constitute a security risks, also how can I better train the employees to understand network security.

Open Question: How can you easily monitor web access on an office network?
I work at a tiny-medium office, with around 60 workstations (not part of a domain, just a workgroup), and one PC/server acts as a gateway. Currently, internet access is simply shared directly. We obviously don't want connection problems when we need it because people or downloading videos from youtube, mp3s, etc., so, we're looking into how to monitor usage. So, can anybody suggest a simple method to control, or at least monitor bandwidth usage? Also, is there a way for each workstation user to realize it is being monitored? Lastly, references to websites or articles on this matter will be greatly appreciated... Thanks before; and sorry for any lack of detail or if this is a stupid question. We (unfortunately) don't have dedicated IT staff, and I was somehow considered an "IT expert".... Sigh...

Open Question: 10000 users/day, what server should i go for?
Hi Folks, i am new here and quite amateur at hosting and server side stuff. My application is going to be a flash game and i expect total data transaction (only download, negligible upload) of around 1 MB/ user session. Main page would be about 350K and relax about 600K of data transfer during the session. I expect about 10000 users/day spread almost uniformly across the day. On this basis, what should be my server configuration. I presume that 1TB of Data bandwidth/ month should suffice but what about the server, ie processor, RAM, etc? i expect the traffic to grow from here in next 3 months. should i go for dedicated server right away or start with VPS and then migrate to Dedicated? I would really appreciate if some more experienced people here can help me in this. thanks in advance.

Open Question: I need a little help to save changes i make to my server using putty?
I have a dedicated server and i need to change a few settings, and the ssh terminal in the control panel is blanked out, i have contacted my server and they keep advising me to use putty to make any changes, i have downloaded putty and i can find the files i want to change by the use off putty, but not being a Professional i cant seem to keep the changes i make in putty, can anyone tell me how i can keep the changes i make and if not can anyone tell me an easier alternative to putty. Open Question: How do I run multiple Halo CE Dedicated Servers?
The readme file didn't explain it very well, and i don't want to have a server with a lot of maps on it. I reread it over and over and there is no mistake, it doesn't explain clear enough. Please help. P.S. The one server I have now is "Snowdog's Custom Map Server" and has 10 maps, plus there's more I want to add.

Open Question: Halo 2 Vista will not run please help!?
Ok Whenever I Start halo 2 It says this mistake message: "LIVE Gaming on windows failed to initialize. This may be because another live gaming on windows application such as halo 2 dedicated server is running on the same machine, Otherwise reinstalling the game may fix this problem." The thing is, i've tried reinstalling, restarting my computer, and so many unimaginable things. My computer is a 9100 graphic card, 8 gb of ram, windows 7, hp 2009 pc. Now my pal actually walked me step by step on how to use the dedicated server. i run a server call [LT] Last Templars dedicated. Ihave the program called DeLagonator. wich in a way has to help you find your possess server and join it. but when i find my servr it says that its retrying to conect. other people can join but not me. how is this possible? and can anyone help me join y possess server?

Resolved Question: My computer is making a weird noise once an awhile.?
I think it happen's when something is loading (Im not 100% sure). It happen's randomly most of the time. It sound's like a sort of buzzing noise. I'm not sure what clogged fan's sound like. This noise happen's even when I have my headphone's on (Happen's inside the headphone's). It started happening after I tried to make a CSS Dedicated server and changed my connection. I changed my connection back and the noise started happening. Can someone help me.

Resolved Question: Self Web hosting help (Advice about scale and how to) and cost.?
Hello, I am a web designer of sorts and I like to create websites for my self and others. I want to start hosting my websites and my clients websites on my server (so that I can offer more support my clients are not tech savvy and need something fully managed plan). I am an optimist and wish one of my many websites can receive high traffic. My websites are designed using php, I am familiar with Apache and Mysql and have had some experience with a virtual dedicated server before. I would like to know the cost of running these such websites and the cost for hardware. I want to run a web server and an a separate sql server. I was also thinking of starting with a used prolient or something along those lines maybe U1 or U2. Any suggestions will be appreciated and welcome. As I said before I am an optimist and want something that is scalable reliable and quick(and cheap too)I plan to run something along the lines of 400 single page websites(could be more with time) and 2-3 more complex with search options and data bases ( the works) with a good UI. I know I am asking for a lot but wish you guys and gals can help me out. Thanks for your help in advance

Resolved Question: Battlefield vs Call Of Duty?
What do you like better and why? It's an ongoing war and in my eyes, Battlefield kick CoDs ass!!! It's more realistic, less laggy, less 7 year olds online, it has better dedicated servers (MW2 has NONE!), you receive vehicles, and the teams are generally not one sided, compared to the unavoidable byast online matchmaking on CoD. Also, BF never gets HACKED!! It's easier to kill people fairly in BF, whereas CoDs lagfest means you can stab someone and they survive to battle another day...

Voting Question: Who started IWnet in Call of Duty: MW2?
I loved Call of Duty 4, and I am extremely disappointed in the newest edition of the franchise, which uses IWnet, a console-esque multiplayer system rather than my beloved dedicated servers on PC. I was just wondering if anyone knew which developers from Activision or Infinity Ward were directly responsible for this travesty. I heard about the two heads of IW being dismissed recently.

Voting Question: How to make server force page refresh?
I want a page where everyone sees the same thing. So if one user does something (types, moves an object, etc...) everyone else sees the changes in (almost) real time. Like if two people were playing tic-tac-toe, they would need to look the opponent's move. (Let's say tictactoe is the app) I wanted to do it with AJAX, and have the tictactoe board be basically 9 divs. I know I could do something like this: When user clicks a div, send an HTTP request and the server will process it accordingly. Then that content will refresh with AJAX to show their move. But when you do that, is there a way to trigger the opponent's page to refresh so they also look the move? So that when someone makes a move, it HTTP's the server to do what it needs, then the server gives the updated data to viewers to handle and dispaly? Any other options? I'm trying to do this on a webhost, otherwise I'd probably use an applet and a dedicated server. Like I said, I WOULD do it with Java, except I don't have a server upon which to serve the necessary code. That's why I would prefer it to be in PHP, AJAX, HTTP, etc... that webhosts offer support for.

Voting Question: Recommended Server Specs for the following?
I currently have a reseller hosting account with a UK hosting provider but am hoping to upgrade that step further to a server, first of every, what is the difference between a Dynamic Cloud Server and Dedicated Server? Will there be any performance difference? This may be because another LIVE Gaming on Windows application (such as the Halo 2 dedicated server) is running on the same machine. Otherwise, reinstalling the game may fix this problem.

Ok so i am planning on Pre Ordering Battlefield Bad Company 2 on the Play Station 3 (mainly for the multiplayer) but i am wandering are the servers hosted, so if it is hosted and the host has bad internet it will make the whole match laggy... Voting Question: Just created a counter strike source dedicated server. How do i connect to it from another computer?
So i just created a counter strike source server and i can connect to it when i type in the ip address of the computer which the server is on, but this is the ip address that is on my lan network. I cannot look the server on LAN in coutner strike source but if i go to favorites and then add server based on the ip address of that computer, i can add it and play on it. However, i cannot look it in the "internet"tab. How can i find out what the ip address of the computer is when i want to connect to it from the internet? Why wont the server show up when i searc for every of the servers in the internet tab? Am i doing somethign wrong? I have two ip adresses that the server client gives me when it says that it is making the server but these both dont work. Please help me! I would really like my friends to be able to join my server and play with me! thank you for your answer, very useful, however, it did not work... any other answers?

Resolved Question: What kind of connection do you need to run multiple dedicated web hosting servers?
I've been curious about this for a while seeing how I would like to receive into it as a side job sort of thing once I'm out of college but I'm completely stumped. So the questions are basically. -What nice of connection would you need to be able to keep multiple dedicated servers stable and lag free? (servers for web hosting and game hosting). -How do you go about getting such a connection? Do only certain ISP's offer it? Is it just a well over average connection? Or is it something you have to possess a company just to receive? -How much would such a connection cost? Most dedicated servers cost you about $300-900 a month on a lot of host reseller sites so I'm sure the connection would cost quite a bit(And I know there is probably a higher profit margin so they can pay off the machine itself) Any information is appreciated . And if it's possible give information for many variables because I have no clue what I'd like to aim for ( host 10 websites or hosting 100+ if you know what I mean )

Resolved Question: Anyone still boycotting Left 4 dead 2 or MW2?
I don't know about you every but I am still boycotting L4D2. I still think they should have made L4D2 free by adding it by downloadable content. And I am still Modern Warfare 2 messed up with their dedicated servers. MW2 should not be on steam and should allow for custom servers so there can be 60 player servers. I can't even play MW2 on my computer but I am still boycotting it.

Resolved Question: Do you need a lot of knowledge to setup firewall on a dedicated server?
i have scheduled a firewall setup next week in godaddy. Firewall Change: None to PIX 501 but the server tech says they can't provide help on server and firewall setup.. which is dumb reallly.. he mention something like "You have to map the external IPS to the internal networking IPs." what does that mean?? is it a difficult job? what do i have to do? he also said my site won't work until i configure the firewall after the setup. what can i do? is there anything i can learn to set this up? hardware firewall firewall in godaddy server. did i say a lot of things wrong? how could ppl keep getting things wrong. it's so simple i have a ds on godaddy.. i setup a hardware firewall on the ds, how to configure??

Voting Question: Where can I find information on setting up a Windows Event Log Server?
Is this even possible? I would like every events to go to a server dedicated to just gathering and storing the log events. I am having some issues finding any books or links on this for Windows. Voting Question: what is the profit you get through gaming servers?
Hi everyone. I play counter strike online. Now my question is that i want to buy a gaming server at http://www.gameservers.com/dedicated/ and it costs nearly $150 to $400 per month. I don't understand what is the profit we receive through those servers. I think that on one pays 10,000 to 20,000 per month without any profit. Resolved Question: How easy is it to lose a TC badge?
I'll be leaving on vacation for over a week. I can dedicate a lot of time before leaving and answer a lot but what would happen to my TC badge while I'm away?
